Course Overview
This advanced guitar course is designed for experienced guitar players who have a good grasp of basic guitar techniques and music theory. Students will learn advanced techniques and theory to further develop their playing skills, as well as explore various guitar styles and genres.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced guitar techniques such as sweep picking, tapping, and alternate picking
- Apply advanced music theory concepts such as modes, chord progressions, and extended chords
- Play a variety of guitar styles including rock, jazz, blues, and metal
- Analyze and perform advanced guitar pieces
- Improvise and compose their own music using advanced techniques and theory
Course Outline
Week 1: Advanced Techniques
- Sweep picking exercise
- Tapping exercise
- Alternate picking exercise
- Applying techniques to a song
Week 2: Advanced Music Theory
- Modes: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian
- Chord progressions: ii-V-I, iii-vi-ii-V-I, and vi-IV-I-V
- Extended chords: 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th chords
- Applying theory to a song
